Chemical Characterization and Antidiabetic Activity of Essential Oils from Pelargonium graveolens Leaves

Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) is a source of the finest quality fragrance and its essential oils are used as antibacterial, antifungal agents. The aim current research to determine chemical constituents in oil P. by GC-MS evaluate antidiabetic activity via α-glucosidase inhibition assay. composition was determined GC/MS assessed through enzyme in-vitro models. analysis determines 36 components leaves, citronellyl isovalerate (10.41 %), menthol (9.61 linalool (8.63 p-menthone (6.31 geranyl tiglate (4.99 %) were recorded major constituents. leaves showed concentration dependant ranging from 28.13±1.41 74.24±2.53 µg/mL for 31.25 1000 µg/mL. IC50 values acarbose found 93.72±4.76 80.4±2.17 µg/mL, respectively against enzyme. study finding explores growing Iraqi Kurdistan region scientifically supported possible use diabetic patients controlling postprandial hyperglycemia.
